Turkish FM expresses concern over US attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites

(MENAFN) The Turkish Foreign Ministry expressed serious concerns on Sunday regarding the recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, cautioning that the action risks escalating the regional conflict into a worldwide crisis.

In an official statement, Ankara said, “The US attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear sites on June 22 has maximized the risk we repeatedly highlighted, the escalation of conflict and destabilization of the security environment.”

Türkiye conveyed its deep worry over the potential fallout from the operation targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. “These developments may lead the regional dispute to a global level. We do not want to see such a disastrous scenario unfold,” the statement warned.

The Turkish government called on all parties to exercise restraint and to “immediately halt reciprocal attacks” in order to prevent further loss of life and destruction.

“The only way to resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program is through negotiations,” the ministry stressed, urging the global community to back diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a peaceful resolution.

“Türkiye stands ready to fulfill its responsibilities and make constructive contributions,” the statement concluded.

This declaration followed hours after U.S. forces launched airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, including the Fordo facility, employing bunker-buster bombs and cruise missiles.

The U.S. President announced that the strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites were “very successful,” intensifying concerns about the risk of a wider conflict in the region.

In response, Iran requested the United Nations Security Council convene an emergency meeting to condemn the U.S. actions and hold accountable those who breach international law.
